Rent and set up a FiveM server – guide

How to set up your FiveM server at Nexthosting – plans, licence key, txAdmin, ESX or QBCore, joining with F8, resources via SFTP and typical problems.

In short

Your FiveM server comes with txAdmin. You install a framework such as ESX Legacy or QBCore with one click, and upload your own resources via SFTP. At startup you need a free Cfx.re licence key – the panel shows an input window for it. Players connect with connect IP:Port in the F8 console.

As a guide, the shop page gives: 32 slots for tests and private sessions, 64 for medium-sized public RP servers, 128 and more for large projects. Slots are not strictly limited. Most frameworks need databases, so make sure your plan has enough of them.

Licence key (Cfx.re)

FiveM itself is free. You need a legitimate copy of GTA V and a licence key from the Cfx.re portal (Keymaster), which is also free. When the server starts, it may ask for this key: the panel shows a window for it, and txAdmin asks for it during setup. The key does not belong in texts, screenshots or tickets – do not share it with anyone.

First steps

Open the panel (Opening the panel) and enter the licence key when the panel asks for it.
Open txAdmin via the entry in the panel and set up your server. There you choose a recipe for ESX Legacy, QBCore, ox_core with ox_lib, or vRP. The panel shows exactly how to log in to txAdmin.
Set the name, description, tags and language. The server.cfg block is inserted in txAdmin’s CFG editor.
Start the server from txAdmin and check the output in the panel.
Copy the address (IP and port, usually 30120) and connect.

Start FiveM and press F8 in the main menu.
Enter connect 195.201.57.54:30120 (your address and your port from the panel).
If there is a whitelist or password, follow your server’s instructions.

In the FiveM main menu, open Servers and search for the name. This requires your server to appear in the FiveM list (the description and tags are in server.cfg). New servers sometimes need a few minutes.

The structure depends on the recipe you chose in txAdmin. A resource is loaded in server.cfg with ensure resourcename:

Note: edit the sections that txAdmin manages itself in txAdmin’s CFG editor rather than in the file manager, so that the two do not overwrite each other.

Uploading resources, MLOs and vehicles

You upload resources via SFTP or the file manager, with no size limit (Files, editor and SFTP).

Unpack the resource locally and check that the file fxmanifest.lua is in the folder.
Upload the folder to resources (or to a subfolder such as [local]).
Add ensure foldername to server.cfg.
Start the resource in txAdmin or restart. Errors appear in the console.

You create databases with one click (Backups and databases) and enter the access details in your database resource (e.g. mysql_connection_string).

Admin and management

txAdmin shows players, resources, restarts and logs in the browser.
You create admins in txAdmin with their own accounts. The panel itself grants co-managers their rights: Friends and sub-users.
Scheduled restarts: Schedules and restarts or in txAdmin.

Typical problems

Problem	Solution
“Invalid license key” or startup aborts	Check the key in Keymaster, generate it for the right IP, enter it again
Resource does not start	The folder is named differently from the `ensure` line, `fxmanifest.lua` is missing, or a dependency is missing (ox_lib, framework)
Scripts report database errors	Check the access details and the database in the panel
Players get stuck while loading	Too many or too large streaming files (MLOs, vehicles). Optimise them properly, add more RAM if needed
Server not in the list	Wait a little, check the description and tags, join with `connect`

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a FiveM licence?

FiveM is free. You need GTA V (a legitimate copy) and a free Cfx.re licence key.

Can I switch between ESX and QBCore?

Technically they have different database structures. Do not switch in an existing world; build a fresh server or a test instance for it.

How many slots?

There are no fixed slots; you set the maximum in server.cfg (sv_maxclients). Performance depends on RAM, CPU and your scripts.

When is a dedicated server worth it?
