Change your plan – upgrade, downgrade and expansions

How to switch to a bigger or smaller Nexthosting plan, add RAM, storage and CPU to your game server one by one, or get more power for a while with a boost.

In short

You can switch a game server to a bigger plan at any time in the customer area; the difference is charged pro rata and your data stays. A smaller plan takes effect at the end of the billing period. If you only lack RAM, storage or CPU, you add that individually (“Server erweitern”, expand server) or get more performance for a limited time with a boost.

The shop is available in German and English, but the labels below are the German ones, as on the German site. The English meaning is given in parentheses.

What do you need?
Permanently more of everythingUpgrade to a bigger plan
Permanently only more RAM, storage or CPUExpand server
More performance only for the weekend or an eventBoost
Upgrade (bigger plan) Downgrade (smaller plan)
When any time, immediately at the end of the billing period

If you cannot find the switch or it does not work, write a ticket with the plan you want – support will switch it for you.

With Server erweitern you permanently add more RAM, storage and CPU power to your game server plan – individually or together. The plan itself stays the same.

Expansion Price per month (as of October 2026)
RAM €1.75 per GB
Storage €0.99 per 5 GB
CPU €2.49 per core
  • For the current billing period you pay pro rata for the remaining days (one thirtieth of the monthly price per day, at least €1.00) – immediately, from credit or with a payment method that confirms immediately. Invoice, bank transfer and direct debit do not work for this.
  • From the next invoice the surcharge is part of your contract price.
  • Upper limits per server are shown when you book. Expansions are only available while there is free capacity on the server host.
  • Reducing or withdrawing an expansion goes through support, for the future. Amounts already paid are not refunded.
  • No expansion is possible during a pause, or when the contract is suspended or cancelled.

You find current prices at nexthosting.net/gameserver-mieten/guenstig. How to expand in your account is explained in Expanding your server and boosts.

A Boost raises the upper limits for RAM and CPU by a percentage for a chosen period. Storage, backups, ports and contract stay unchanged.

  • The price depends on your plan, the strength and the duration; a minimum price applies. You see the exact price before you book.
  • You pay in advance from credit or with a payment method that confirms immediately.
  • You can schedule a boost for later or book it as recurring, for example every weekend. Scheduled and recurring boosts are paid from credit at the start; if there is not enough, that run is skipped.
  • If you end a boost early, nothing is refunded.
Product How to change the performance
VPS You expand CPU, RAM and storage in the customer area.
Webspace and WordPress hosting Switch to a bigger plan through the contact form or a ticket. Websites, databases and mailboxes are kept.
Dedicated server The hardware is fixed. If you need more, you order a bigger server and move. Support can answer questions about this.
  • Create a backup. A plan change does not touch your data, but a fresh backup never hurts – see Backups and databases.
  • Check storage for a downgrade: does your data fit into the smaller storage?
  • Look at the metrics. In the panel you can see whether RAM is really the bottleneck or something else – see Metrics and notifications.

No. World, mods and settings stay on the server.

No. While a server is paused, plan changes, boosts and further add-ons are not possible.

Does an upgrade change my term or notice period?

Section titled “Does an upgrade change my term or notice period?”

Expansions and boosts do not change the term or notice periods. The customer account shows the term, payment interval and notice period of a contract (AGB § 8; AGB = General Terms and Conditions).
