Rent and set up an Enshrouded server – guide
How to set up your Enshrouded server at Nexthosting – plans, joining via the server list or Steam favourites, passwords, difficulty and enshrouded_server.json.
In short
Up to 16 players build and fight together on your server, even when you are offline. You set the name, passwords, difficulty and player count in the Startvariablen (startup variables) under Konfiguration → Start. Players join via Join in the server list or add the address as a favourite in Steam.

The player numbers are guidelines; you set the maximum yourself (1 to 16). Every additional slot needs more performance.
First steps
Section titled “First steps”- Open the panel (Opening the panel). In the console you can see when the server is ready, and on the first start your admin password.
- Open Konfiguration → Start in the panel and set in the startup variables: server name, player count, difficulty, server password, admin password, updates.
- Restart and copy the address.
The server password is for your fellow players: whoever joins with it can build and use chests, but cannot remove or ban anyone. The admin password allows removing and banning; if you leave it empty, the server generates one and shows it in the console at startup. Difficulty levels: Default, Relaxed, Hard, Survival or Custom. According to the developer, you set the individual values for Custom (health, stamina, hunger, wear) and the chat in the file enshrouded_server.json; your server keeps these lines. Enshrouded does not accept commands in the panel console.
How players join
Section titled “How players join”- Choose Join in the main menu.
- Switch on Show dedicated server in the filter on the right – otherwise self-hosted servers are missing.
- Choose the server, mark it as a favourite with the star, enter the password.
In the Steam client, go to View → Game Servers, tab Favorites, click + and enter IP address:port. After that the server is at the top of the list (menu names as in the English Steam client).
New servers are initially called “Neuer Server von Nexthosting” (“New server from Nexthosting”) until you change the name.
Typical problems
